If you’re looking to learn something new this fall, Bedford Recreation is offering an assortment of art and craft workshops and classes. The following four are co-sponsored with BACS.
•Introduction to Gouache with Laurie Engdahl
This class, which will be offered in two three-week sessions, will teach the basics of painting with gouache, a versatile water-based medium. This class will teach you the basics of painting with gouache, a versatile water-based medium. Gouache is similar to watercolor in that you don’t need much in terms of supplies, and it is highly portable with minimal setup and clean-up. Unlike watercolor, however gouache can be applied to create opaque vibrant, saturated color similar to acrylic and oils.
•Plein Air Watercolor Nature Immersion Morning
with Nadine Mazzola
Join Nadine to paint outdoors as she provides step- by-step guidance in creating a series of watercolors. Using washes and other watercolor techniques, students will explore themes inspired by nature. The emphasis will be on noticing the essence of what you want to paint and learning how to suggest that in a simple way through brush strokes.
•Tapestry on a Pin Loom with Marcy Young
This class led by BACS member Marcy Young will give students an opportunity to use a pin loom to make a small, beautiful tapestry-style weaving for a wall or table. It’s a great way to use up leftover yarn. Students will learn loom setup, basic weaving, and a few other stitches. You don’t need a big fancy loom to make beautiful tapestries. Pin looms can be made to many sizes and shapes. This class will give you an opportunity to make a small tapestry style weaving for a wall or table. Free form design creates a beautiful unique work of art. Students will learn set up of the loom, basic weaving and a few other stitches. A few finishing techniques will be discussed.
•Woolen Winter Tabletop Tree Decoration with Marcy Young
Join Marcy Young in making a winter or holiday tabletop tree. Students will use wool fabric and will clip, cut, pin, and glue to create a tree that they will then decorate with beads.
