The Bedford Arts and Crafts Society (BACS) partners with the Bedford Recreation Department to offer community members enriching and creative opportunities through a variety of artistic classes. This collaboration allows BACS to recommend classes that align with the interests and preferences of the community, making it easier for people to find activities that inspire and excite them.

When you see the phrase “in collaboration with Bedford Arts and Crafts Society” in the brochure, it means that BACS has handpicked these classes for their creative value and ability to enhance participants’ skills. A portion of the proceeds from these classes is donated back to BACS, supporting scholarships and events that benefit both the community and our members. By attending these classes, participants are not only learning new artistic techniques, but also helping to fund opportunities for others to engage in the arts.

This partnership also provides BACS members the opportunity to teach their art to the community. Whether you’re an experienced teacher or want to try it out for the first time, Bedford residents love taking classes led by their neighbors. If you’re interested in hosting a Recreation Department class, feel free to reach out to me at kellyflook@gmail.com, and I’ll help get you started!

We are thrilled to have several BACS members leading classes this spring, including Taline Saatjian, who will teach a mixed-media workshop with dried flowers and artistic prints; Hillary Taylor, who will be hosting a metal clay workshop (I’m particularly excited about this one as I missed it last time!); and Namrata Siviya, owner of the Purple Pencil, who will guide a 4-week drawing class for beginners or anyone looking to explore their artistic side. Lastly, by popular demand, Marcy Young will lead a 4-week course to create a punch needle key holder with floral designs.

For those still looking for winter classes, there are a few spots left in Tonya Lemos’ Botanical Cyanotyping class. I’ve taken several of Tonya’s courses and just love them! In this class, you’ll learn how to create stunning cyanotypes using nature, a perfect way to get inspired during the winter months. You’ll also delve into the history and science behind the process, which I found fascinating as a science enthusiast. Plus, cyanotyping is an inexpensive art form you can easily recreate at home with a kit from Amazon! Don’t miss out—sign up today! Sign up here!

The Spring brochure will be available on the website next week at www.bedfordrecreation.org, and the paper version will arrive in mailboxes during the last week of February. Registration opens on Monday, March 3 at 8:00pm. Be sure to mark your calendars!
