A sure sign that autumn is on the way is the imminent publication of the Bedford Recreation
Department’s brochure of fall workshops and classes. The catalog will be online the week of
August 19, with online registration formally opening on Monday, August 26, at 8:00 p.m. Hard
copy of the brochure will be in Bedford mailboxes by the end of August.
The Rec Department will offer an assortment of art and craft workshops and classes. The
following four are co-sponsored with BACS (and two of them will be taught by BACS
member Marcy Young, a fiber artist and rug maker):
- Introduction to Gouache with Laurie Engdahl —
This class, which will be offered in two three-week sessions, will teach the basics of
painting with gouache, a versatile water-based medium. - Plein Air Watercolor Nature Immersion Morning with Nadine Mazzola —
Join Nadine to paint outdoors as she provides step-by-step guidance in creating a series
of watercolors. Using washes and other watercolor techniques, students will explore themes inspired by nature. - Tapestry on a Pin Loom with Marcy Young —
This class will give students an opportunity to use a pin loom to make a small, beautiful
tapestry-style weaving for a wall or table. It’s a great way to use up leftover yarn.
Students will learn loom setup, basic weaving, and a few other stitches. - Woolen Winter Tabletop Tree Decoration with Marcy Young —
Join Marcy in making a winter or holiday tabletop tree. Students will use wool fabric and
will clip, cut, pin, and glue to create a tree that they will then decorate with beads.
Look for full descriptions in the brochure. Remember that BACS receives a small percentage of
the income from the co-sponsored classes, so if you enroll, you will also be supporting BACS.
